The Royal Yacht Britannia

As the former floating royal residence of the late Queen Elizabeth II, The Royal Yacht Britannia holds a unique and distinguished place in British history. The last in a long line of royal yachts dating back to the reign of Charles II, Britannia was the only royal residence personally designed by Queen Elizabeth II and the late Duke of Edinburgh.

The Royal Yacht Britannia served a dual role: she was both a symbolic embodiment of the British Monarchy overseas and, more importantly, what the late Queen described simply as “home.”

After over 40 years of service, The Royal Yacht Britannia was decommissioned in 1997 and moved to her permanent berth in the Port of Leith, Edinburgh. Since then, she has been preserved as a museum and floating time capsule, offering visitors a rare insight into the private and official life of the Royal Family at sea.

Versatile Event Spaces

Available for both private tours and dining, The Royal Yacht Britannia is one of Edinburgh’s premier corporate and social event spaces.

Whether you are looking for a fabulous drink’s reception for up to 150 on the Royal Deck, wish to recreate the grandeur of a State Banquet for up to 96 in the State Dining Room, or happen to be looking for a more intimate dining experience for 16 in the Officers Wardroom, let Britannia transport you back to a time of elegance and refinery.

With the recently reimagined visitor centre which maps the history of the Royal Yacht from conception through her multiple years of active service, a new and invigorating event space has been created. Much more than a visitor centre, the space has been thoughtfully designed to not only educate but provide the perfect backdrop for fabulous champagne and canape receptions for over 50 guests, with stunning views of Britannia herself.
